Thought I'd posted a list
of French and Indian War Farguson's
from Amelia Co Va-1756 Capt
Henry Anderson's Co & Capt John Winne
Richard FARGUSON
Bryan FARGUSON
Edward FARGUSON
Thomas FARGUSON
William FARGUSON
Does anyone know if these
types of records would reveal more
genealogical data if they
could be obtained from the Archives at
Washington? If so, what
are some examples?
I was wondering if any of
the people referenced can shed light on the
following:
How is John Ferguson b (?between
1638-41) d 1778 m Mary (I always
thought it may be Ward?)...left
a will in Amelia Co Va 4 Nov 1778 and
mentions his brother William
and his
children:Richard,Robert,Anna,Kesia,Lucy,Mary,
and Henry.
I would assume the patent
record of John Fargusson dated 30 July 1742
Amelia Co Va for 780 acres
on head branches of Evans's Creek on Bush
river adj. Randolph's line
refers to the above John....then there is a
patent of John Farguson
dated 24 Mar 1725 Henrico Co Va of 165 acres on
North side of Appromattox
Riv,adj the land of Richard Grill. (as well as
an early Moses of the same
county). An early patent of James Farguson
dated 1 Oct 1747 Amelia
Co for 1550 acres on south side of Hurricane
Swamp seems to suggest a
relationship of James and John..both of Amelia.
In light of this new material
and am hoping some of you Ferguson
researchers can help show
me the LIGHT!
And thanks to the writer
of the new documentation regarding the Ferguson
lines of Va!
Obviously I just made a typing
mistake regarding the birth of John
He could not have been born
1738. As to his birth....I am going to leave
that alone for now. Thanks
Joan.
Someone pointed out an Estes
connection.
The Kesia, dau of Richard
m Abraham Estes b 1728 Kings and Queens Co
Va.Some of the Estes families
from this line married in Amelia Co
(i.e.Henry) and also daus
Rachel and Betty m in Prince Edward Co).
Hope I don't get too many
flames regarding my typing skills.Ha
From: "Clark Sinclair" I am unsure if I am related to this line: Major Thomas B Ferguson b 1839 d 1886 Greenville SC m Alice CLINE...possible children: 1. Mary Frances 2. Thomas B. d 1917 Greenville a Civil Engineer 3. Dr. Frank C. d 1916 Greenville a physician 4. Alice "who rode a billy goat through Greenville"(?) 5. Cline (Logan Cline?) d 1931 a lawyer in Greenville. others probably related: Calhoun, Charles C; Logan C (may be #5) also these may be related to a Judge Grimke Ferguson b 1809 d 1886 m Jane MANSEL who had a son John Ferguson b 1841 m Harriet GRADY. Do these names seem familiar to anyone? Clark Looking for these Ferguson Families: Henry Watkins Ferguson b ca 1866 Spartanburg Co SC m Lola O'HARA and resportedly lived in Earle Arkansas in 1931. They had a Henry and a Robert. Henry Thompson Ferguson b 1846 Spartanburg d 1906 Spartanburg m Eugenia DRUMMOND and had Herbert, Lillie, Minnie, Ella, Blanche, Harrison, and Annie. Samuel W/S Ferguson b 1811 SC d 1889 possibly Laurens Co m 2nd Agnes PHILSON/FILSON and had Henry, Alice, William Walton, Lizzie, Etta and Mary. He m 1st Lucinda MCCRARY and had Christopher Columbus, Frances Cornelia/Parmelia, Spencer, Charles and George. Thomas Richard b 1808 d 1856 Laurens m Martha SMITH and had Mary, Susan, Martha Ann, Eliza, and Eudora. John Ferguson b 1782 d bef 1807? m Rebecca McCOY dau of John ....he had a daughter or granddaughter Eliza GODFREY. and a dau Eliza m ALBURTON...this line is very confusing. Special thanks to Jan Phillips for her help on Judge Ferguson. Since they lived in Pickens Co....I am not sure yet whether there is a connection, but it gives me more to think about. Has anyone ever heard of a Ferguson-ELPHINSTONE connection? Clark Subject: [Ferguson-L] George Ferguson-Mary PETERSON Am researching George Ferguson b Laurens Co SC d 1837 a physician who graduated from Medical College at Lexington KY m Mary PETERSON of Newberry Co SC d 1842 "of "Danish descent" They had at least one child, John W. Ferguson b 1835 Newberry Co SC m 1869 Mary DORRAH b ? dau of Dr W.M. DORRAH and reportedly had 4 children, (3 of whom were sons). Did George have other children? He had a brother Alexander Boyce Ferguson....who is somehow related to Alexander BOYCE. Clark
Is anyone connected to Robert Ferguson of Amelia Co VA? His will is recorded Amelia Co VA 9 Feb 1768; wit George BOOKER, James GARRETT and Edward MURFORE (?)....mentions his wife Mary, sons:Richard Ferguson, Daniel Ferguson, and ABNER Ferguson; daughters: Martha WOOD, Mary Ferguson, and PHEBY Ferguson.... a John Ferguson m Olive WILLIAMS 21 Apr 1789 Amelia Co. Deed: John FARGUSON (grantee)/Robert FARGUSON deed Bk 1,36, 1736 Amelia Co VA....trying to understand the relationship of John to Robert. John did have a brother William, but William is also a mystery. another Amelia deed: John,Elizabeth FARHUSON/Thomas WATKINS Bk 2 p153, 1745. There is a relationship of some kind to Edmund BOOKER Jr b 1719 Essex Co VA d 24 Jan 1793 Amelia m 17 May 1746 at Amelia to Edith Maret COBBS B 23 Sept 1725 at Amelia. He was also a JP at Amelia.
My ancestor is John Ferguson whose will if dated 4 Nov 1778 Raleigh Par Amelia Co VA (Will Bk 2, pp328-330) John lived Henrico Co VA before moving to Amelia. He possibly married Mary WARD (?) who has some relation to Seth WARD..whose son Richard had a dau Sarah WARD m Henry FARMER II. Some deeds Amelia Co VA: John FARGUSON (grantee)/Robert Ferguson deed bk 1, p36 (1736) Nancy Ferguson et al/John SPENCER deed bk 8,p316 (1764) John mentions a brother, William Ferguson in his will. children of John: (1) Richard m Nancy (Elizabeth?) SPENCER (2) Kesia/Keziah m Abraham ESTES (3) Mary m Francis FARMER (4) Anna m Roger THOMPSON/THOMSON (he m 2nd Hannah LAWSON) (5) Lucy m Ambrose HUTCHASON ? (6) Robert m Martha FOSTER ? (7) Henry ? (8) Edward (could be that one of John's sons had a son Edward?) Some families moved to Prince Edward Co VA and then to Laurens Co SC...some moved to Mercer Co KY....some moved to Chesterfield Co VA.... Found the author and the book "McCall-Tidwell and Allied Familes... it was written in 1870 633pages by Ettie Tidwell..... in it she says my ancestor is from William Ferguson who had George who had John b betw 1708-1710. d 1778 Amelia Co Va. The early Fergusons are quite sketchy....it says George moved from MD and is descended from Badifurrow in Aberdeenshire Scotland. Patrick Ferguson, she says, the Lt.-Colonel of the British Army and killed at the Battle of Kings Mountain during the Battle of Kings Mountain during the Rev War was Williams great grandson and son of James Ferguson and Ann Murry. Now.....the BLANKS and questions regarding this "summary" to me are many ....is there any "truth" to this? Has anyone any material or come across anything to support or disprove this "summary"? For example, where did George Ferguson/Farguson live in Maryland? Sometimes there is "truth" in these older books and sometimes not.... In any case, if there is some truth to it, I would guess that many FergusonS are descended from this George and his father William! Clark Subject: [Ferguson-L] Ferguson-Waters The census information Joye shared with us is from John A. Ferguson b 29 Aug 1828 Laurens Co SC d 14 Mar 1896 m Margaret (Maggie) E.
