<x-flowed>I can't tell you much --but Oscar Marion is the son of William Ferguson
and Martha McDaniel. William was born in NC Dec 5, 1791 to John and Mary
Ann Hill. At some point they moved to SC and then to Amite County, MS
around 1820 and then show up in various parishes of LA for a time. I
think that your Andrew has to be the son of one of John's brothers. Two
of John's daughters married Austins. I have more on John's children but
can't prove who his brothers were since there seems to be two John
Fergusons who moved to that area at the same time or so some on this
list argue--I'm not so sure they were two different people. If you want
move of the info I have let me know--a lot of it is still on paper and
not on computer so it might take me a awhile to put it together.

Subject: [Ferguson] Re: Andrew Jackson Ferguson of Choctaw/Montgomery MS

I didn't have Catherine Ferguson at all and according to my source (a
Austin that used to be on the Ferguson-L) David married Catherine
Cooley. John was married to Mary Ann Hill first and the Scarborough was
second wife. I suspect that the Moses Ferguson who was married to
Elizabeth Lively is related to John--probably brothers. One of Joanah's
children was F. Ferguson Austin. My line is through William's son David.
Will send more later.

"Subject: [Ferguson] Henry Clay Ferguson ca 1850s Choctaw County, MS"
A few days ago I posted that Henry Clay was son of Joseph Jefferson
"Ferguson, son of William 1791, son of John ca 1763. Since then I found a"
post on Genforum that makes that quiestonable. According to this source
(from a descendant of the line) Joseph Jefferson Ferguson born about
1823 died in infancy but he did have a brother who was also J. J. --John
Jackson born 1815--this guy is listed as Jefferson in the 1850 census
then 1860 J. J. then 1880 Jackson--so Henry Clay's father is John
Jefferson Jackson Ferguson. Which is not impossible since my line is
from another brother David Mason Augustus Ferguson (they seemed to have
a habit of having two middle names).

It turns out that Henry Clay Ferguson born 1855 or 1850 depending on
what census is son of J.J. Ferguson = Joseph Jefferson ca 1815 and
Elizabeth ? ca 1816. Joseph is the son of William and Patsy McDaniel
Ferguson. (some sources say Joseph Jefferson was born 1822 but the 1850
census (he's in Carroll County--his father in Choctaw) indicates that he
is older.

Does anyone know who Henry Clay Ferguson's parents were? I can't fit him
with the rest of the Fergusons in that area--most would be in Montgomery
County by the 1880 census (it was area of Choctaw County that became
Montgomery County) Henry married Lucretia Benson Greenlee --I only have
one child for them--Hampton Clay born 1879. He married Rosa Hambrick and
had at least one child Alma (would like more info on Alma and Rosa) Alma
married Johnnie Seth Williams--son of Oliver Monroe Williams and Mary
Elizabeth Rodgers whose mother was Martha Ferguson --daughter of David
Manson Augustus Ferguson (married Martha McCallister) born Jan 1825
"Amite County, MS --son of William and Patsy Daniel or McDaniel---William"
was son of John and MaryAnn Hill or Scarbourgh.
It would be nice to be able to link these two Ferguson lines.

Subject: [Ferguson] William Ferguson ca 1791 SC.
William Ferguson was born in South Carolina to parents John Ferguson
(ca 1763) and Mary Ann Hill (another source says Stuart). He married
"Martha ""Patsy"" Daniels/McDaniels/McDonald Sept 30, 1813. their children"
were:
Trucilla Maranda 1814. She married Alexander Mcpherson born 1815 GA--she
was dead by the 1850 census and he is living with her parents--two
children Alexander 1837 and Cloanna 1835.
"John Jefferson Jackson May 3, 1816. He married Elizabeth ? born abt 1817."
William Elkanah abt 1817. He married Louvica Adaline Causey born June
"23, 1827."
Daniel Echols abt 1819. He married Caroline Matilda Denman born abt 1832.
(I have a third LDS source that says he married again about 1862--Mary
Holland)
James Alexander abt 1819. (he and Daniel were twins according to newer
source and they are listed as same age in 1860 census). He married
sister to Caroline--Clemontine Minerva Denman born abt 1836.
Joseph Jefferson 1823 died in infancy
Richard Ellison abt 1824. He married Martha Oma born about 1826.
David Manson Augustus abt 1826. He married Mary McAlister born abt 1828
Oscar Marion abt 1827. He married Mary Angeline Denman (another sister)
born abt 1840.
There is a Abraham Ferguson next door to William in 1850 Choctaw Census
born about 1820. I'm wondering how he fits--I suspect he does somehow.

Subject: [Ferguson] Alma Ferguson of Montgomery County, MS's children

someone wrote me for this information back in October and I was waiting
for one of Alma's daughter to supply the dates and whatnot but I have
not heard from her (I'm scared to asked again) So here is what I have on
Alma
She was born abt 1903 in Montgomery County, MS. Her parents were Hampton
Clay Ferguson and Rose Etta Hambrick. Rose Etta died young and Alma
lived most of her life with her grandparents Henry Clay Ferguson and
Lucretia Benson Greenlee (her father remarried Edna Overstreet and they
had 2 children (at least that I have found thus far) Frank 1914 and
Louise 1920)
Alma married her 3rd cousin (if I'm right about who Henry Clay
Ferguson's parents and there is a possibility that I am but I dout it
since family folklore has always admitted Alma and her husband were
related) John Seth Williams (his grandmother was Martha Ferguson
daughter of David Manson Augustus Ferguson, son of William Ferguson ca 1791.

Alma and John's children are

John Clayton born about 1920---he died in 1971 of I believe a heart
attack. He was married to Viola Haynes. I don't know if they had any
children that are still living---they did have a set of natural quints
that all died.

Kathleen born about 1923. She married Velan Wood.

Roy born about 1926. He married Merle Mertlie. They had at least one
daughter and divorced. He married Ellen ? about 1997 after he was
diagnosed with prostate cancer. He died in 1998 or 99.

Joy born about 1931. She married Edwin Moody Greene. Their children are
Edwin, Donna and Walter (named after my grandfather--John Seth's
youngest brother)

Bayou --common in Alabama and Mississippi coastal areas --An inlet from
the Gulf of Mexico, from a lake, or from a large river, sometimes
sluggish, sometimes without perceptible movement except from tide and
wind. [Southern U. S.]--in Southern Alabama sometimes it's
swamp--Webster's Revised says it's a swampy arm or slow moving inlet of
a lake used mainly in MS and LA.

Trace and trail can mean the act of following the path of something--I
suspect it meant to follow the path or track an animal first--the
Natchez trace/trail ran from Nashville to Natchez along the old hunting
paths/tracks--a number of the towns in MS in particular were started at
old trading posts along the trace--like French Camp in what became
Montgomery County

Bayou may have come from a word in the Choctaw Indian language ( they
were forced to sell off their lands in MS with the treaty of Dancing
Rabbit Creek in 1833--there's still a Reservation at Philadelphia, MS )

John Ferguson Sept 1759 or so--Married Mary Hill--where is the proof
that he was the son of John Ferguson and Mary Gill? Isn't it possible
since other descendants of John Ferguson and Mary Gill say this couple's
John died in 1829 that the John Ferguson who went to Amite County, MS in
1811 was the son of Abram Ferguson. It seems line being a descended of
John's son William (through his son David Manson Augustus Ferguson) I
should be able to voice an opinion on what seems to be a point of
disagreement and silence..

Subject: [Ferguson] John and Abram/Abraham Ferguson SC

What led me to wonder about John ca 1759 and Abram Ferguson was the 1810
Chester County Census--found old email that talks about all of John's
children being born in Chester County --there is a John listed in that
census that has enough females to be John Ferguson who went to Amite
County and the census record itself says he is the son of Abram. Later
1850 census of Choctaw County--there is William Ferguson(John's oldest
son) and next door is Abraham (he was for a time in Pickens County, AL).
I feel that these two probably aren't neighbors by accident. It was just
an idea since I have been told by certain descendants of John and Mary
Gill Ferguson that John Ferguson (wife Mary Hill) is in no way related
to their branch.
