Paul,

My Ferguson information is scant.  A family Bible lists JaneForgason, b. 06
Apr 1788, d. 28 Mar 1843, m. 1822 to Samuel BRITTEN, prob. in Smith County,
TN.  I believe that her father is WilliamFergerson, will written 22 Mar
1819 and probated May 1819 in Smith County, TN.

The will spells his last name variously as FURGERSON, FARGERSON, Ferguson
andForgason.  He mentions a wife but does not name her and daughter Jane
and son Dixon.  In 1830 and 1840 Samuel and Jane BRITTEN are living close to
Dixon Ferguson.

Samuel and Jane had five children after their marriage according to his will
which does not name his minor children but only his older ones from a
previous marriage.  The only child whose name I know is Mary Jane BRITTON
who was b. 17 May 1829 and married Edward W. WILSON in Wilson Co, TN on 11
Nov 1852.  I have been unable to locate Mary Jane in the 1850 census and can
only assume she was living with a relative who I have failed to locate.

In the late 1980's I was corresponding with Shirley Doran at Clan Fergusson
but we were unable to make a connection.  You can call me "Frustrated."

Kay Cockrell Kazmir,

I finally took the time to go to your website and was very impressed.  It's
great and easy to get around in.  In the census data for TN when I clicked
on Smith Co and on Wilson Co, I was told that the URL was not found.

I would like to add a collateral line which I failed to do earlier:
Britton.

I have lots of TN research as well as the will of William Ferguson.  I will
try to post that information on the list soon.

Kay Cockrell Kazmir,

I have a puzzle that I could use some help on.  I've been working on it for
over ten years now and haven't managed to solve it yet.

My ggg-grandmother was Jane Forganson/Ferguson, b. 06 April 1788 according
to a family Bible.  In 1819 she and her brother DixonForgason/Ferguson are
named in their father William's will in Smith Co, TN.  The will mentions
William's wife but does not name her.  He refers to himself as William, Sr.
in the will.  Jane m. Samuel Britten in 1822 probably in Smith Co, TN.

In Smith Co, TN there is another William Ferguson   born ca.1786 in SC who
m. Isabella Wakefield ca. 1813 and d. 20 Nov 1851 in Macon Co, TN.  He had a
son Dixon b. in 1830.

My Dixon from Smith Co, TN was living in Macon Co, TN in 1850.  However, his
will written Sep 1860 was probated in Smith Co, TN in Jan 1861.

I have always thought that it was possible that William who m. Isabella
Wakefield might be a son or nephew of my William who died in Smith Co, TN in
1819.  He is certainly about the     right age to be the brother or cousin
of Jane and Dixon.  His descendants state that he was never referred to as
William, Jr.

Has anyone managed to find William's (m. Isabella Wakefield)  parents or
siblings?  Can anyone help me find  the elder William's birth date, place of
birth, parents?  His daughter Jane and her husband Samuel Britten both died
before the 1850 census so I am not even sure where Jane was born.  Their
daughter Mary Jane d. in 1869.  I have been unable to locate her in any
census.  She married Edward W. Wilson 11 Nov 1852 in Wilson Co, TN.

As you can see, I have quite a puzzle to solve.  Any help that the list can
give me would be greatly appreciated.  I have a copy of William's will which
I will be glad to share even though it has very little information other
than what I have given above.

After locating" "Samuel Britten in the 1820 and 1830 Smith Co, TN censuses and Jane BRITTEN" "in the 1840 Smith Co, TN census, I located a will in Smith Co which I" believe may be her father's will. It mentions his wife but does not name her" "and his daughter Jane Ferguson, and his son Dixon Ferguson. These children" are later named with the spellings Jane FORGASON & Dixon Forguson. The will was witnessed by James KIRBY and Wm. WOODROOF. "Samuel BRITTEN/BRITTON was b. 18 May 1776 in MD and d. in Smith Co, TN on 16" Jan 1840. His will was written 12 Nov 1839 and probated 19 Mar 1840. The "will names his elder children (by a first unknown wife) and mentions ""five" "other children"" who he does not name.
