Subject: [Ferguson] Oliver Ferguson From New York to Ontario
One of my ancestors was Oliver A. Ferguson - a Millwright who lived in the village of Cannifton, Ontario (near Bellevile). The 1851 Census showed his age at 35 and the 1871 Census had him aged 54 and his wife Catharine aged 42. He identifies his country of birth as the U.S.
It is my understanding that he came to Canada from the state of New York but I am not sure when he came to Canada.
His eldest child Amelia A. Ferguson born Nov. 4, 1846 in Hungerford Twp. Hastings Cty. Ontario married William Keene on April 22, 1872.
Anyone familiar with this family of Fergusons and his roots in New York?
