From: "Golden Ferguson"

Hello all,

I have been researching my family name of STAMPER for the past year.
Stamper-L rootsweb site has been so informative in my research. I have made
and met friends through this site.

Now my research is going down another path........The Ferguson line

Very recently, my husband and I were going through some papers that
belonged to my husbands father, William Crozier Ferguson. Neither of us
know very much about his childhood or young adulthood. All we have to go on
are a few pieces of paper and bits of recollections from conversations.
Maybe there will be someone out there that just may be able to fill in some
blanks; or by some chance, we will be able to assist someone else.

William Crozier Ferguson was born Mar 4 1903 in Jefferson County, Indiana.
He married  Susan Napier in the early to middle 40's. William died Sept/Oct
of 1981 at 78 years of age.

>From 'Honorable Discharge from the Army of the U S', it tells us that dated
March 24 1943 AAB Hqs, Geiger Field, Wash, 1943 series. "Said: WILLIAM C
Ferguson was born in Jefferson County, in the State of Indiana. When
enlisted he was 39 years of age and by occupation a Millwright. He had blue
eyes, brown hair, ruddy complexion, and was 5'10" in height. Given under my
hand at GEIGER FIELD, SPOKANE, WASHINGTON this 27th day of March, 1943
VALENTINE J BURGER, Major, Air Corps" He completed 8 months and was
discharged due to medical condition.

>From a Contract for Monumental Work.......William placed an order for a
marker for his father Winfield Scott Ferguson 1854-1914. Winfield is buried
in Jackson Cemetery near Enterprise, IN. He died when William Crozier was
11 years old.

When my husband, Larry Adam Ferguson, went into the Army, his dad William
Crozier, gave him a small New Testament that had been passed down through a
couple generations. Inside there are several notations.

"This book was carried thru the Spanish-American War by Sergt W S
Ferguson Co D. 161 Indiana Volunteers 1898-1899
"Dale E Ferguson, son of W S Ferguson enlisted in First World
War, but rejected. Sent to hospital for slight operation by Government.
Just recovered when Armistice was signed. Carried this book"
"Crozier Ferguson, son of W S Ferguson, World War II
Veteran-1942-1948- Owner of book.
"This book given to Larry A Ferguson, son of William Crozier
Ferguson, upon entering U S Army, July 8, 1965 and being stationed at Fort
Campbell, KY.

Larry never met his grandmother. I think when Winfield died, she married a
man by the last name Phillips. I remember early in our marriage of meeting
a Paul Phillips. I think his wife's name was Roberta. They lived in
Indiana; Jefferson County. Some of the names I have heard mentioned are
Blaisdells, McClanahans, Phillips and Langdons.

In a letter, dated May 3, 1953, from a Henry Elliott, Indianapolis, In.  He
enclosed a newspaper clipping of an obit of AYERS L ELLIOTT. thanking
everyone for their kindness during the loss of his father. It is addressed
'Dear Cousin'.

Sorry this letter is long; but thought I would put all the tidbits of
information we have out there. Our genealogical journey with the Ferguson
name has begun!!!

I noticed in a query on another Ferguson site....a Stamper connection. If
there is anyone out there with a Stamper connection, too, I would be happy
to share Stamper information as well.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this.

Barbara,

I am just beginning to look at our Ferguson line. I did not know my
father-in-law that well. He did not talk of his family very much. Looking
at your locations below, I thought just maybe, William Crozier Ferguson b
1903 in Jefferson County, Indiana might connect somewhere. His father's
name was Winfred Scott Ferguson. Rather than retype my first inquiry over;
I will paste it below. Can you help in any way? Or anyone reading this. I
wish I had a few more clues.

Thank you. Golden Combs Ferguson, Breathitt County, Kentucky

Good morning Dee and fellow Ferguson friends,

I am just beginning my research of my husbands family. I have very few
clues......but, I realize, sometimes one clue can open up different
possibilities.

I have a purchase order for a marker for Winfield Scott Ferguson, 1854 -
1914 with directions where to deliver the stone. Rt 250 to Enterprise to
East Enterprise and come back on St Rd 56 to Jacksonville Cemetery between
Mt Sterling and Center Square. (Winfield was born in Jefferson County, I
think. I am waiting for a certificate from vitals)
I have a small Bible that he carried in the Spanish American War with an
inscription that says "This book was carried thru the Spanish - American
War by Sergt W S Ferguson, Co D 161 Indiana Volunteers 1898 - 1898. The
Bible was then carried by his son Dale E Ferguson in the First World War
and then by William Crozier Ferguson, another son, in World War II, 1942 -
1948. It was given to my husband to carry during the Viet Nam era.

William Crozier Ferguson b 1903, Jefferson County Indiana is my husband's
adopted father. From what I have heard, his father passed away when he was
a child and his mother remarried; a man by the name of Phillips, maybe.
William Crozier was an older man when he married Susan Napier of Kentucky.
They had no children, other than adopting my husband, Larry. He died in 1981
in his 70's in Mesa, Arizona.

Phillips, Blaisdell, Cain and McClanahan are a few names I have heard him
speak of. Do you or any readers, maybe, have Winfield Scott Ferguson in a
database somewhere.

I think the families were all born in and around Jefferson County, Indiana.
My husband grew up in Madison, Indiana area until he went into the Army in
1965.

Also, for the past year, I have been working on my Stamper side. I saw in a
list, at one time, the name of a Stamper. A gentleman, Homer, gave me the
name of a lady to inquire of this with. I am waiting for a response from
her. Just wondering if there were any other Stamper/Ferguson connections in
anyones databases.

Among some papers we have, is a note, from a cousin of William Crozier's,
Henry Elliott,  in Indianapolis, IN, acknowledging thanks for support
during the passing of his father, Ayers L Elliott. William was a quiet man,
rarely speaking of his childhood.

Thank you so much. Golden Combs Ferguson, Breathitt County, Kentucky

John.......my husband's grandfather, Winfred Scott Ferguson, from Indiana,
was in the Spanish American War also. The Indiana Historiacal Bureau has a
website re: the SA War. You might be able to 'glean' a clue or two from the
article or contact them regarding other states involved.URL is
http://www.statelib.lib.in.<us/www/ihb/tiharch-sept98.html>
You may contact the library at <ihb@statelib.lib.in.us>  Hope this provides
some help.
