"Some of you may have corresponded with Barbara Burkhardt of Austin, TX on"
the Ferguson family tree. I just learned that she died on 12/2/2002 of
cancer. Thought this may be of interest to someone out there.

Paul,
I am a descendant of Alexander Ferguson and his wife Mary PARKER
through their son Daniel Ferguson who was b. c. 1782.  Daniel m. Jemima
SAUNDERS in Franklin Co, VA in 1805.  After her death, he married Sarah
MOORE    and migrated to TN and  Tippah Co, MS where he died in
1858.  His son, Albert Gallatin Ferguson, from whom I descend, settled in
Dyer Co, TN.  I believe Alexander's father may have been a Daniel
Ferguson who d. in Essex Co, VA; so my research is is Bedford, Essex and
Franklin Counties in VA, as well as Tippah Co, MS and Hardeman and Dyer
Counties in TN.
                                Thanks,
                                        Barb

Terri,
Your note was of interest to me, as I descend from an Alexander
Ferguson who supposedly came from Dumfries, Scotland.  I have also copied
info from the LDS Library which ties my Alexander into the Annie Laurie
you mentioned.  Whether it is true or not, I can not say.  However, I
thought it might be good for us to exchange info on our Fergusons in case
they are somehow connected.  My Alexander was much older than your John,
however.  He m. Elizabeth Gowen in 1694 and moved to York Co, VA in 1716
according to one family history.  He was supposedly transported to
America after being on the wrong side (the losing one) in one of
Scotland's battles.  According to the info I have, he d. c. 1719.  I have
other info which ties this Alexander in with the group of Fergusons sent
to Maine at an even earlier date, so I am more than a little confused on
this line.  Anyway, I thought since John and Alexander both are supposed
to have come from Dumfries, there is at least the possibility that they
have common ancestors.  What do you think?

Bonnie,
Excuse me for butting in on your note to Terre, but I was very
interested in the info on the Craigdarroch Fergusons.  I descend from an
Alexander Ferguson who is supposedly from there.  The info I have said he
was transported to America with his wife Elizabeth (Gowen) and his
children after fighting on the losing side in one of Scotland's battles.
It is believed that he died in York Co, VA in 1719.  Would your book
happen to have any info on him?  If so, would you please share it with
me?  I would certainly appreciate it very much.  From the LDS Library
records, I gather that my Alexander may also be related to the Annie
Laurie you mentioned.
                        Thanks,
                                Barb

I saw this note and thought I might warn you to be careful about
Wingfield's Franklin Co, VA book.  I have found it to be very inaccurate
with my Alexander Ferguson family, connecting them to families I never
heard about.  I think he must have gotten two families intermixed,
because it just doesn't jibe with the info I have found on this line.
                        My two cents worth,
                                Barb
