Subject: [Ferguson] Samuel Dwight Ferguson
I am still looking for the birthplace and family of origin of Samuel
Dwight Ferguson (Fergurson) and his wife Esther Marion (?). They appear
in La Grance, Walworth Co., Wisconsin in the 1860 census. They say they
were born in Canada West, and the children ages 14-6 also born Canada
West. The 2 year old was born Wisconsin. I have Esther's last name from
the marriage record of one of the daughters - it is possible it is not
correct. Anyway, Samuel went off to the Civil War and Esther went off to
Michigan with another man. No divorce or marriage for Esther found.
Nothing in Samuel's CW papers including pension app. gives any clue as to
where in Canada West (now mostly Ontario). he came from. He died in 1875
in Whitewater, WI. - not death record or obit. By that time he had
remarried but there is no marriage record as it was, according to the
second wife, destroyed in the Chicago fire. I have tried following the
children and Esther but so far no clues. Esther appears on the 1900
census in Newaygo Co., MI with her married daughter, who died in 1904.
No death record or burial has been found for Esther.

Subject: [Ferguson] Samuel Dwight Ferguson
Once again I try for information on the family of origin of Samuel Dwight Ferguson/Furgerson. He was born c. 1822 somewhere in Canada - (Canada West). He and his first family appear in Walworth County, Wisconsin in 1860, with wife ESTHER, b. c. 1822, children: JAMES b. c. 1846, ELIZABETH, b. c. 1848, ANNA, b. c. 1851, RICHARD Elias b. c. 1855 all Canada West, and Horace Leander, b. c. 1858 Wisconsin.
Samuel enlisted in the Civil War in 1861, discharged wounded in 1862. In 1864 he married Harriet Vinson Davis. He died in 1875. I found the first wife Esther, with Anna, Richard, and Horace in Newaygo Co., Michigan in 1870. James was in Loveland, Colorado. Elizabeth is supposed to have married a Westphal in Wisconsin, but I have found nothing on her. Esther and Anna were still in Newaygo Co. Michigan in 1900 but I lose track of them after that. I find nothing on Richard or James after 1880. Horace died in Michigan.
Where in Canada did these people originate? Are there any descendents of Samuel by these children of the first marriage? I am descended from the second marriage.
All comments or assistance appreciated.

A few years
back an 80+ Texas gentleman (Jack Ferguson) contacted my cousin and sent him
several boxes of research materials which included pictures of a lot of our
ancestors. He had come to Greenville and knocked on doors of the Ferguson
descendants to get information. At first, he said they were reluctant to
talk with him, but after a couple visits or so, they relaxed and gave him family
information as well as the pictures. Because of this Texas gentleman, we
now have pictures of our great and great, great grandfathers & grandmothers
as well as many others. Included is a family picture of Alice
Ferguson Paris, b: 1865, d. 1938 with her husband John Morgan Paris, b.
1857-1939 and their children Dallas, Ida, Alice, Addie, Perry, Johnny, Miriam,
Henry and Ben. Also two pictures of Alice as a young girl and as a
teenager. Another picture of my grandfather Martin Luther Ferguson's
brother, John Riley at about 60+, who looks like a twin to my
grandfather.
I hope you may
find at least some of this information
useful!
