These were extracted from tax records, marriage records, obituaries,
census, and "Goodspeed Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Eastern
Arkansas," published 1889, frtom the 1911 Census of Arkansas Confederate
Veterans, and other cited sources
A. F. Ferguson, owned store in Crittenden County in 1889.
Alexander H. Ferguson, youngest child of Horation N. and Jane G.
(Proctor)
Ferguson, who were natives of TN, and AR, respectively. He was born
at
Greenock, AR in Crittenden County, and attended school in Memphis.
Alexander served in Confederate army in 1862, was wounded by grapeshot
fired from cannon at battle in Corinth, MS, had leg amputated. Was elected
county clerk in1880, treasurer in 1884, and was also coroner in 1889.
Alexander became a merchant in Marion, AR in 1884. He married Kate Ritche
of Memphis Jan. 19, 1887, but his wife died eight months later.
Notes on Alexander's family: Grandfather came from Greenock, Scotland to
Virginia, then moved to TN, where he lived until his death. His children
were Horation N. (Alexander's father), William D. and Allen McL. The three
sons came to Greenock, AR territory, largely a Scottish immigrant
settlement, in 1820.
William D., who fought in the Battle of New Orleans in 1815, became
first
sheriff of Crittenden County in 1825 and served 10 years, also was a deputy
surveyor, dying at Memphis in 1866. Allen McL. became postmaster and later
county trasurer. Horatio N. farmed, largescale, and in 1827 gave
land for
county use - jail, etc. - left Greenock in 1835 moving a short distance
downriver. In 1841 Horation N. went to Frankfort Ky. "for his health" and
died there soon after. His wife died in 1871. Alexander had five brothers
and sisters. Mentioned were Sarah, who went to Corinth MS to pick up the
wounded Alexander in 1862; Nancy E. (Ligon) and Katie A. (Brown), the last
two of whom who were still alive n Crittenden County in 1889
Aron (or Aaron) Ferguson, 45, b. in LA, died May 1860, of black tongue
in
Drew County, AR. (see Elijah, below)
Austin H. Ferguson, native of Virginia, son o f William Ferguson Sr., who
died at age 83 in Texas. Austin moved to Morgan County, Alabama and married
Catharine Walker. Later moved to Marshall County, MS. Wife died there in
1840. Came to Arkansas County, AR in 1849, elected to state legislature
as
representative for Arkansas, Jefferson and Desha counties, re-elected in
1851 and 1853, became state senator for Arkansas and Monroe counties. Died
in 1884 at age 72. Son was William F. Ferguson (see below)
C.E. Ferguson, sec.-treasurer of Buddenberg Furniture Co. in Little Rock,
in 1889.
Daniel Ferguson of Monroe County, AR Territory, paid taxes there 1836-37;
Heirs of Daniel Ferguson, paid taxes in 1838-39. (This appears to be the
Daniel Ferguson born in SC who moved to Bayou Chicot, Louisiana in the
early 1800s. He moved again to near Monroe, La. before his death in 1840.
Elijah Ferguson, 17 , b. in MS. , died of black tongue in Drew County,
May
1860
Elijah Ferguson, Hempstead County, former Confederate officer, farmer with
lartge family died in 1860 left them in "comfortable circumstances.
Isham Ferguson of Monroe County, AR. Territory, paid land taxes there
1836-7-8 (This one and the next one are possibly brothers or nephews of
Daniel Ferguson, above. He had both brothers and nephews named Isham and
James who werew in MS and LA prior to this time)
James Ferguson paid taxes in 1838-39. Monroe County, AR Territory,
James Ferguson, had plantation on Cache River, Woodruff County, about
1860
- (perhaps same person as following listing).

James P. Ferguson, foreman of a grand jury in Woodruff County in 1865.
Lt. Jim Ferguson commanding a detachment of Cabell's Cavalry, CSA, captured
9 men of Co. B, 1st. Ark. Cavalry (Union), when they attended a dance at
a
private home West Fork, AR in Washington County on eve of Battle of

John Ferguson in Sharp County 1820 claimed a veteran's bounty grant for
service in War of 1812
John Ashford Ferguson, Morrell, AR, b. July 5, 1838, CarrollCounty MS,
son
of Aaron Ferguson (who was son of Elijah Ferguson). John A. was a private,
Co. C. 3rd Ark. Regiment under Capt. Whittington, April 1862 til war's
end.
Said he was at Appomattox Courthouse when Lee surrendered. Wives:

Martha Robertson, 2 Monetta Barnes, 3 Jane L. Meriwether. Son: Calvin
Ferguson, who married Mary Baldy and lived in Gatesville, TX.
Joseph Ferguson, b. Fayette County, MS., Nov. 20, 1854, son of William
Packwood Ferguson and Sarah Jane (Barton) Ferguson. Joseph youngest of

children. Family moved to Columbia County,AR in 1855. Joseph farmed,
elected state trasurer in 1918.
Moses Ferguson of Pulaski County paid taxes there as early as 1827,
also a
Moses paying taxes there in 1838-39 and listed in 1840 census.
Moses Ferguson of Saline County, AR, native of TN, b. about 1839, moved
to
Saline County and at age 19 married on March 18, 1858 Elizabeth Pryor,
age
21, In 1860 census they lived in Marble Township, Saline County, had a
daughter, Nancy J., age 1. He served in Confederate army, survived war.
Napoleon B. Ferguson, married Elizabeth Allen in Strawberry, Lawrence
County, AR, Feb. 26, 1820.
R.H. Ferguson of White County married Mary F. Claiborn, who was daughter
of
John B. Claiborn, a native of NC who had moved to White County from Kansas
in 1867
Sallie Ferguson Kizer, of Monroe County, AR, b. in DeSoto Coutny, MS, 1855,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ferguson, married L.W. Kizer, farmer, who
had lived in MS before moving to Cypress Ridge, AR in 1883.
Samuel Ferguson claimed in Sharp County in 1820 a veteran's bounty land
grant for service in War of 1812.
William C. Ferguson, b. Shelby County, TN, 1848. Son of Joseph L. and
Bettie E. Ferguson. His Grandfather Ferguson was a native of SC who died
at
age 86.
Maternal grandfather was a soldier in War of 1812, also died at age
86.Became farmer on his own at 18. Married: Bettie A. Ligon, native
of
Dixon County, TN. In 1870, He was a Presbyterian, a Democrat and member
of
Knights of Honor society. Wife was a Missionary Baptist.
Children: Emma D., William R., Annie V., Joe, Elton T., Cleveland,
Blanche, Lula M., and C.E. (Cove first name?)
In 1874 he moved to St. Francis County, AR.
By 1889 he owned 530 acres, farmed and raised livestock. Owned a
steam-powered cotton gin, cotton press, could do 20 bales a day. Averaged
700 bales a year. Also owned a store, opened in 1887.
William D. Ferguson, Greenock AR, Crittenden County, married widow
Margaret J. Neely, Feb. 26, 1820.
William E. Ferguson, b. Cohoma County, MS, Sept. 10, 1851. Son of James
F.
and Maria L. (Alcorn) Ferguson, originally of Kentucky, who moved from
MS
to Woodruff County and settled in Augusta in 1850.
Married : Mary E. Douglass, native of Iowa, daughter of Louis and
Ruby
Douglass.
Children: William E., Mary M. ( widow of Andeerson ONeal), Minnie T.,
Bettie T., and Alcorn.
William E. Ferguson attended Emory and Henry College in Virginia at age
15;
after two years he returned home and became deputy sheriff ; then attended
Lebanon Law School, practiced law briefly then took over father's farm
in
1878, was later elected county and circuit clerk, still serving in 1889.
William F. Ferguson, b. Lawrence County, Alabama in 1836. Son of Hon.
Austin H. and Catharine (Walker) Ferguson (see separate listing above).
William F.'s grandfather, William Ferguson Sr., was of Irish descent and
died in Texas at age 82 when William F. was a small boy.
Married: in 1860, Miss Hally, born in Fayette County, TN, daughter
of
Crede P. and Mary Hally.
Children: None listed
William F. served in Confederate army in Clay's Company, initially, which
became part of Wheat's Battalion. William F. was reassigned as a courier
on
the staff of General Fagan. William F. was a farmer, and in 1889 owned
940
acres . Was a Democrat and a Mason.
