INTRODUCTION
The Index is keyed to the page number of the original ledger which is found on the left side of the page.
There were three ledgers of Surveyor's Books for Albemarle Co. They were for the years 1744-1755, 1756-1790 and 1791-1853. It is unfortunate that in the original microfilming in 1975, the films were made in the way they were. Surveyor's Book 1, Part 1, 1744-1755, finished Microfilm Roll #392. The next roll #393 started with pages 152-346 of Surveyor's Book 1, Part 2. Then Surveyor's Book 2 (1791-1853), was filmed finishing the roll. Later the Archives renumbered their films when preparing them for the Reading Room and Inter-Library Loan. #393 was renumbered #114. It was recently found that they did not have the first pages of Book 1, Part 1 (1-151) or Book 1, Part 2, in the Reading Room or prepared for Interlibrary Loan. When this was pointed out to them, the original film #392 was copied and renumbered as #114A.
LOTW is the abbreviation for Land Office Treasury Warrant. The State of VA sold this land. This program was started in 1779 with the first LOTW in Albemarle Co. recorded in this book surveyed on 1 Mar 1781. These were never used as bounty warrants for military service.
Fluvanna was the name applied in the early years to the James River above the mouth of the Rivanna River.
